"Life" is a completely arbitrary distinction made up by human scientists. In reality, entropic processes have a smooth gradient of complexity that starts with combustion and crystalization, prions, viruses, bacteria, and then the various types of plants and animalia going up to primates and then hominids.
People are just really complex fire. They consume, excrete, and spread. Nothing particularly special about it.
