This one has been picking up steam on /x/ for some reason. I had always assumed this was just a result of staring at monitors/TVs too much, but it does seem weird since a LOT of people are now staring at these things 24/7. The Wiki article mentions an over excitement of neurons, I wonder if that's the cause? Any neuro-anons know what kind of event could even cause something like that?

It might be some kind of serotonin effect, dopamine is antagonistic and gives very clear and colorful vision. I've experienced the change between the two clearly along with strong feelings of excitement and energy

Morgellons comes to mind. It makes me extremely suspicious that the first thing that comes up on the wikipedia article them calling it a delusion despite the fact that real samples of the "strands" have been taken before.
