I think it's fairly obvious you wouldn't live purely on synthetic glucose
point is, you wouldn't need to grow sugar beets to have sugar when you could have a chemical reactor producing sugar on 1/10000th of the area otherwise required
it could also be used as substrate for growing fungi meat analogue and other more complex chemicals in bioreactors or (potentially) growing cell culture meat
