this is a poser forum for soitards, nobody here has any actual practical experience with using a telescope or any other significant scientific equipment.
board is full of astronomy and cosmology and astrophysics experts of the highest order, but none of us have ever touched a real live telescope.

Speaking of telescopes. I spent quite some time googling but still couldn't get any kind of definite answer.
What does diffraction limit of a telescope depend on: the area of the primary mirror or its dimensions? Will a telescope with a circular mirror (with a hole in the center) of the larger outside diameter give you in theory a better diffraction limit than a smaller regular round one of the same area? Ignoring the technical problems of making one and assuming everything's perfect of course.
