Help, I think I might have picked the wrong degree..
I'm in 2nd year and switching now seems pointless. I'm studying Physics but increasingly I'm realising that I want to in biological engineering, specifically on either artificial gametogenesis, engineered negligible senescence, and genetic engineering, although I am leaning towards the first. My main motivation is to help people, and after seeing lots of the job opportunities for Physics involve either manufacturing-related engineering or defence I'm starting to feel more and more depressed. Of course, I could go into Physics research instead but I'm not convinced that is a moral good anymore, certainly not in the same way bioengineering is.
Are there any avenues from a Physics degree onto these sorts of projects? Next year I have the option to study a unit from another course so I will be choosing something biochem related. I know there is an overlap between Physics and medicine but how big the overlap is, I'm not sure.
