Why is trusting science considered a virtue today, when it relies on being proven wrong and/or discovering the unknown to progress?

Why is skepticism and inquiry shunned?

I understand the concern of propaganda and conspiracies, but those are unfortunate effects of pursuing the truth. Now it seems the line has gotten blurrier and labels get thrown about in order to discredit if one even questions, never mind disagrees.
