It's actually not that hard to see, if you think about their formation from clouds of matter around a young star.
The only "random" thing you got roughly right is the angular size. Moon's distance's been getting closer and we just happened to live in a time where its angular size is roughly the same. I've never checked for other planets' moons but my guess is it's not common.
