Would have been freaky if life had developed on the dark side of the moon.

There would have been some length of time before they had circumnavigated their globe, so everyone is minding their own business, unaware that things are going on right behind them. Plus at least one of the first people who DID circumnavigate the globe would have one of those "holy shit" moments

A cool idea for sure, but I doubt an intelligent race on a tidally locked planet wouldn't eventually colonize every continent on all sides of it. Ie: likes humans did.
More likely is some cultures would arise on the "earth" side, while others developed on the "dark" side. And doubtlessly those on the "earth" side would incorporate it into their religious mythologies. The culture clash could be interesting, should their species experience an "age of exploration" like we did.
