Its the same reason the flu seasons worldwide are in winter.
Colder weather means more indoor contact.
Colder weather also means worse blood circulation which means that your white blood cells also take to longer to get to sites with infection.
You should see the same type of drop in cases in the Northern Hemisphere by April 2022.
BUT there is something else as well:
Sweden was the only western country to forego a lockdown.
They were crucified by the world press for being irresponsible.
Look at their current cases compared to their neighbors who were model lock-down countries. Their statistics are looking very good now. Their herd immunity strategy seems to work.
Turning to Africa: Lockdowns were not a big hit in Africa. They basically ignored many of the rules or didn't have lockdowns. So the virus circulated freely through their respective populations.
