From personal observation, the people who think they're most logical and "scientific" like programmers, traders or mathematicians are even more susceptible to their emotions than the average person. They are just as emotional as everyone else but refuse to think they are.

People like you need a structure to channel your intellectual energy, else it dissipates into listlessness. You need a goal to pursue, an incentive structure, people around you doing the same thing and an attachment to what you're doing.

I just quit my job and spent six months watching TV and working on interesting stuff and getting my diet/exercise back in order.
It was really nice, but now I have a hole in my resume and would rather die than ever go back.
Don’t know if I’d recommend it.
