I am a straight white male from an Eastern European working-class family applying for grad school in the USA (chemistry). Are there any tips, tricks, suggestions, experiences on what to write in a diversity statement?

Also, are diversity trainings actually a thing in universities (in STEM programmes) or just a meme?

No, lots of places require them as an additional document.
You need to attest to your commitment to equity and inclusiveness. If you're actually in a diversity hirable group, you can bring it up there

Basically a statement of how your presence as a human and life experiences bring "equity and diversity" to wherever you're trying to go. Yes it's real and it's fucking retarded. Some internships in the US pretty much exclusively exist to take in minorities and the statement is basically a way to do that without explicitly asking for your race. Protip: if the advertising poster for the internship says "underrepresented groups encouraged to apply" then steer very far away from it. Also this is pretty much just for internships and not really a thing for applications for college itself.

Literally all the postdoc/work positions advertised in the institute of physics magazine (bongland thing which I think most local physicists and grad students would belong to) include a statement to the effect of "we particularly welcome applications from women or underrepresented groups".

Also half the articles are about equality. They go out of their way to get black people to write in but the way it then works out is that the black people in the science magazine only write about why black people aren't in science.

Are you from a rural area? If so then say that.
Otherwise say something like “I realize that people of color experience hardships that I don’t even have to think about. For this reason I will always treat people of other ethnicities and religions with absolute respect and create a welcoming environment for all people. I also realize that I come from a privileged background, and that has allowed my to develop as a student in ideal circumstances. For this reason I plan to give back to my community once I become a working professional and help empower others by providing them resources to succeed.”
Even if you don’t believe it, just say the right buzzwords and you’ll be fine.

When I was applying for tenure track jobs I had to do this as part of my application packet for all the US places I applied. Never heard of anyone requiring it for grad school in general only for applying to be a professor. Mind telling us what school?

I don't get how amerimutts are OK with MIT being full of chinks but are super sensitive to Iranians. It's the same story in the UK and to a much lesser extent Europe. China is a threat to the US, Iran isn't.

China exports billions in material assets to us. 90% or more of our furniture and electronics are made by China. Iran doesn't offer us anything. I do think it's kind of bizarre how some progressives equate being white to being rich and privileged in every way. I had some old drunk noblewoman at an event tell me how easy it must have been to get to where I was because obviously I'm from a very well off background as proven by my appearance. Except I'm an orphan with only criminals and uneducated workers in my family. Surely by that same logic she should go around asking every black person what life is like in the hood.
