A Triangle has 3 sides, A square has 4. A triangle's area and perimeter are derived from a square. But a circle's area is derived from a triangle as well as its perimeter. So how many sides does a circle have and why does a triangle need to be used as a intermediary?

its the simplest way to do it, we could use any other shape but we'd wind up reducing it down anyways. shitty picrel explains the exact logic in relation to triangles and circles. Though to be honest the forumlas for circles don't depend on triangles, rather the triangle/circle interaction is a proof for irrational geometry.

Not particularly. It is obvious that a discs area is proportional to r^2 and to get the coefficient you simply integrate the lengths of concentric circles from 0 to 1, which are equal to 2pi by fiat. This is completely rigorous btw.

And to add - this works in general for a wide variety of shapes and gives the proof that for regular polygons the perimeter expressed in terms of the distance is the derivative of the area. Same holds for any shape that is foliated by the boundaries of itself after you shrink them.

At the planck scale spacetime shouldnt be a smooth manifold, but thats the planck scale. Until you go the planck scale, everything is good old R^(3+1), at least locally. And there is a long way to go between the 10e-33 meters and the size of say a proton.

any regular polygon (triangle, square, pentagon, hexagon etc) can have a circle drawn around it that touches all the corners. Don't need a triangle at all. One of the ways of approximating the value of pi is actually making a polygon with lots and lots of sides
