We have spent 50+ years, tens of thousands of years in pure man hours, looking for signals of extraterrestrial life. If the Universe was even remotely 'populated', we would have found something by now. Not just something, many. We detected gravity waves pretty much the moment we turned on LIGO. The Kepler space telescope was built from the ground up to find exoplanets. Out of hundreds of thousands of exoplanets, it found exactly 1 (ONE) planet which MIGHT have earthlike conditions. We have detected no alien signals because extraterrestrial life is so incredibly rare, and so incredibly far apart from each other, that we are effectively alone.
