It's not that it's math that's the problem here, the problem is that you're choosing a private hobby over spending time with your friends. People in general don't like being snubbed for something that's not strictly necessary.
Right now you are CHOOSING to practice your hobby instead of hanging out with them. You are saying "I like you less than my lonely hobby".

My old friends used me to pay for shit. I was paying like half the bills and 10x what they paid for stuff when we "split the bill" because I didn't go out and didn't know about all that. Loneliness sucked, but eventually it became the new baseline. I genuinely don't feel the need for friends anymore.
