This thread is to discuss and give ideas about the 4th dimension.
Anyone remember Carl Sagan's flatland example?
The flat squares use 1 dimensional vision to create 2 Dimensional mental maps of theri world. Imagine if there was a 3D ramp on flatland the flat squares could move into. What they think is simply going forwards/backwards on the ramp, is actually displacing them up/down.
Similarly, imagine we infact displace ourselves through 4D by what we think is 3D movement.
One idea is that the 4th dimension is the perception of size, we can look at the same direction or "point" in 3D space with the naked eye, and then with a microscope and we see a totally different world, like a flat square in flatland who walks into a ramp to get an elevated view, they lose sight of everything else.
Similarly we can have more detailed view of things (with the naked eye; up to a certain point) by moving three-dimensionally, we are displaced in a fourth-dimensional direction. Like a ramp in the flatland, a microscope will give you a totally different view of the same 3D spot.
Another idea is that blackholes are a 4D ramp, or rather a negative ramp.
