How do I do good in General Chemistry 1?

Taking General Chemistry 1 next semester and panicking a bit. How do I do well in such a tough class? What are some concepts that I should go over?

Have you taken chemistry in high school?I think most students I've seen struggle initially with stoichiometry (aka dimensional analysis) and thermo stuff. Honestly just practice problems from a textbook or whatever, most math related questions are all solved in the same way.

Yes, I've taken Chemistry in high school. I didn't do so great, but I didn't study a lot either.

At least as far as the more math-oriented part of the class goes, which is a significant chunk, it really just comes down to practice. I would say try to work up to doing stuff like stoichiometry in your head as much as possible (with a calculator obv). That stuff comes up all semester so being able to do it quickly makes things easier imo.

Every person is going to have different areas that are difficult to them. For me, it was the most basic thing, memorizing the important parts of the periodic table. I didn't have any problems with the math or analysis but rote memorization has always been a weak point for me and chemistry has quite a bit of it, especially at the entry level.

Memorize the common elements and compounds along with basic properties and reactions. It helps a ton. Btw, i haven't taken any college chem so good luck
