>>13860243>How do we fight climate change politically?Firstly. We can't. There's a simple reason for this. People are stupid selfish cunts and the politics merely reflect that. The few that actually care and are intelligent enough to effect rational solutions are a powerless and vanishingly small minority who you will not see praising Greta or signing petitions to ban plastic drinking straws.
Its a simple equation really.
Population numbers x emissions per capita = cc.
Everyone focuses on the emissions, rarely on the population. Since Humanity can not act on the obvious solution we clearly do not deserve to survive at current standards. Like some primitive tribe that lives on a small island that can support a few people, yet they continue to spit out babies non-stop regardless. Therefore instead of a controlled and steady re-balancing of population numbers and emissions per capita we will most likely get a J curve, with the attendant chaos, suffering and waste. Which wouldn't be so bad except for the fact we are going to wipe out a lot of other species and ecosystems in the process. Which will likely make recovery from the new dark age all that much harder, if such a recovery is even considered desirable.
Secondly, and related to the above, climate change is not such a big deal when you consider the long list of environmental damages that will eventually inhibit life on this planet. Some cc scenarios, in isolation, are actually preferable to the long term impact of food chain collapse brought about by various other forms of human activity. Even if you entirely removed climate change the J curve scenario would still play out.
TLDR. We are fucking fucked, mate. Big time. Not in your lifetime, or perhaps even the next unborn germination's, but soon after that.
