You derive twice, or change with respect to the square of x i.e. (per x)(per x)

y = x^n
d(y) = d(x^n)
dy = nx^(n-1) dx
d(dy) = d(nx^(n-1) dx)
d^2 y = (n(n-1)x^(n-2) dx) dx
d^2 y/dx^2 = n(n-1)x^(n-2)

See dx repeats twice even though we applied the same operator on both sides
