You should have done like CS,Finance or even business at a good university. You need a phd in biology to survive and even then you will not have versatile job opportunities within your field. Its a rat race

STEM Is not automatically good. There are huge discrepancies in terms of career opportunities

Important to remember, most departments in public and private institutions are chock full of working graduates that have jobs completely outside of their field of study. My friend studied math in undergrad and now works as a 'resource planner,' which is just some bullshit bureaucracy thing at a university, another did bio and makes decent money working at a company in HR. Can't be too picky.

I graduated suma cum laude from high end school with degrees in bio and psych. Managed to graduate in three years by taking tons of credit, had some admittedly not very exciting lab experience. Worked as a fry cook for a year and a half after because there were absolutely no jobs. Finally got a lab job but it only paid $13.50 an hour and was in Manhattan. I had to split a studio with a stranger for awhile, we hung a bed sheet across the room to make it too rooms. She was old and a heavy drinker and smelled.

That was 2009 though. The labor market seems way less fucked up than after that crash. Stick at it, even with management experience and a great resume now, it still took me 4 months and probably 80 or so applications to find a job I wanted when I needed to get a remote one to move.

Do you have any advise I could give my brother? He's in his service and will come out for reserves in short few years. My mum has been kind of wretched over it so I'd like to tell her things that might help her be put at ease.
I'm working on my BSc in math but I'm not sure if I want to bother going to graduate school.

It's always amazing to me that these uni geniuses are presumably so damn smart and yet a bunch of supposedly low IQ plain criminals have outwitted them through the ages and managed to run next to all.
I've been through uni as a philosophy student and the material wasn't impressive.
The gap to the true Intelligentsia is painfully present while the focus of its body politic is as trivially vulnerable to mass propaganda as the uncultured themselves, if not far more. Granted, it's not the dreadful 'STEM' (why not just call us Jews again? Oh, wait...) that lacks in vision, imagination and everything humane as much as the weaponized 'humanities' lack in sanity. The organism clearly seeks self destruction.
Whether by a behavioral arsenal or literal bombardment, or equivalent, is almost irrelevant.

Universities haven't really existed for ages and certainly not in their current form. Ancient times would be borderline cults which is only supplanted by religious monks, another kind of cult, and then religious scholars, where the cult really began to take shape. The only saving grace before these scholars is the intellectual prowess and secrecy of these cultists, but scholars and the printing press being the rise of the LCD.
