They repeatedly fail to solve the hard problem, the binding problem, or any other impasse that prevents materialist theories from achieving soundness, just coming up with more correlates to pile onto their ever growing list of "what causes consciousness."
Consciousness clearly can not be reduced to chemical interactions inside neurons, or a collection of neurons. That consciousness can be substrate independent proves matter is not special, thus consciousness is a product of energy.
This is a form of physicalist dualism which happens to align with thousands-year old religions.
