Hi /sci/ I’m a first year EE Student, today I found out that I got 69 on Calc 1 and 80 something in linear algebra, this made me realize that I must be a midwit. Tell me honestly /sci/, can a midwit be a researcher or a scientist? If I can’t be one, I guess I’ll just climb the corporate ladder and wait for my crypto to 10x.

Yes you can!

Actually doing research has very little to do with your skills in linear algebra or calculus.

Being a good researcher has more to do with curiosity, reading the litterature and doing your experiments in a smart and efficient way. Math is only 3 % of this and is barely a factor at all.

This but unironically. You can find endless "studies" that say whatever someone wants them to say, there's a massive replication crisis in science now because of how politicized "science" has become.

A harmless example is eggs, studies have said they're bad, studies have said egg whites are good, and studies have said whole eggs are good. There's probably even a study in the works that will say only egg yolks are good.

It could be due to how your Calc 1 class is taught. The same textbook but with a different professor lecturing or vice-versa can have a huge difference on a class's understanding/grades. If that's one of their filter classes for engineering then university admin won't care. Find some time to study calculus on your own from different materials and see how well you do with that.

Not really, my math is quite high, I guess I’m just new to these, I’m quite bad at proofs. They’re just so abstract , but at the same time intuitive, and I have a hard time of doing it.

Its dogshit. Nonhighschool class will prepare you for calc and analytical geometry. The best you can hope for is obtaining a mastery of algebra and trig in HS classes, and reading up on proofs in your spare time.
I got absolutely fucked up in honors calc I in uni, because my HS AP and IB courses for math were shit. I only took honors calc I in uni for an "easy A refresher", and thank God I did, because IB Calc I was nothing like Uni calc I. Also, spivak is a shit writer. I supplemented my calc classes with Apostol.
