Usually on these type of questions the missing value can be determined even without the aid of multiple choice

Apparently the nonsensical notion of "most logical" means something to them. You can have something like the "most appropriate" answer for multiple-choice knowledge questions, but the idea doesn't work for strictly logical rules.

What if the sequence you were thinking of is a symmetrical sequence of 6 items? Is your explanation "less logical"? What is that supposed to mean and by what standards is it judged? Unless they previously stated some assumptions and rules that you're not showing, this is a question made by brainlets for brainlets.

Protip: MENSA is a scam and their tests aren't even good psychometrics. They give the IQ field (solid science that knows its conceptual and statistical limits) a bad name.

the explanation says it all. it cannot possibly be A or D. lets say you thought to do one with those horizontal lines to distribute them evenly, but then there are three with lines and only one with circles. that cannot be. and it cannot be C either because that would make there be two identical objects and two different objects, there is no symmetry there. so it must be B.

this is of course assuming the goal is to even ly distribute the attributes as reasonably as possible. so yeah mostly arbitrary and stupid, but you should have gotten it either way.
