why from an evolutionary standpoint humans crave to have the cognitive effects/state of mind being changed by drugs, alcohol, tobacco, psychotropics? and how is it effects of those substances still do not change our consciousness meaning people will still remember whan sober everything what happened during the influence of those substances ?

isnt consciousness the base and undeniable and independent tool the human brain acquired during evolution?
