How do you deal with the fact that you'll never have a truly original idea /sci/? You will never be thought of as a genius. You will always be painfully average. I was browsing through the faculty of some top schools and their resumes. Lots of awards, lots of perfect GPAs, but still, almost all of them will die in obscurity.

level 1(IQ 80-100):reddit plebs, cant even understand a simple concept just memorizing the process.
level 2(IQ 100-120):/sci/ mostly can understand the concepts, but they will never understand the concept core, they are incapable of getting the true internal meaning of the objects, they can just use an abstraction to create an illusion of higher understanding
level 3(IQ 145-180):/pol/ have a complete intuitive understanding of the universe and the human nature, see beyond the matrix, knows that this world is more than just abstracted systems, holds the true key of universal truth

Even if you truly have original research. In the long run most people do not care and will not knw you. Even if you publish top tier works such as Terence Tao most people will never heard of you. The average person focuses on socializing, entertainment and making a living.

You have a higher chance of being widely remembered when you are in the entertainment industry (I include sports in this category as well since people watch it for entertainment)

Do you even like the masses or give a shit about what they think?

Just live your life OP and enjoy the process and spending time on what you cherish

I really don't mind. I'm kind of a dumbdumb. I'm just in this to have fun. I enjoy doing lab stuff, and research is fun too. I like reading the theory, it makes me feel smart (which i am not).
I can spend my whole life dicking around in a lab, comeing up with new stuff (which probably isn't of any relevance to anyone) and i even get a little bit of money for it.
That is all i need to be content. I also have a similarly dumb gf in an equally interesting field of research as mine. Neither of us will ever achieve anything big, but we'll have fun and maybe sme one can use the research we do for something usefull.
Are you really in academia just for the fame? You should have gone into the arts or on tiktok or politics or something.

Very. I really enjoy my research. And i don't mind the monoteny of it, cause i'm kind of dumb. I don't think she'll leave though, things have been going really well for a long time now. So for the foreseeable future, we'll enjoy our shit together.

I'm sorry for your loss, but now imagine being a genius, generating original ideas on regular basis, dying in obscurity because nobody gives a fuck (even you don't give enough of fuck to promote your work properly, you'll better generate some more original ideas)
I leave original ideas here and there all the time, so feel free to see them and develop them further (I saw an idea of mine published well by someone, and it was a really warm feeling, as if an orphan I popped up into this world got adopted by somebody smart and lovely)

issac newton's famous quote about standing on the shoulders of giants is true for everyone, but not everyone is willing to admit it.
the first ooga-boogas got to snag credit for all the intellectual low hanging fruit, these days you gotta struggle just to combine a few memes into something seemingly novel and worthwhile.

To combine those exact preexisting ideas is an idea per se. Also I doubt that what you said is true: what two ideas would I combine if I learnt to use lightnings for something productive? The idea of lightning and the idea of production?

No one has ever had an original idea. Take any "original idea", look into the history of its development, and you'll find gradual evolution. Now, how do you deal with the fact that you have contributed nothing to the evolution of ideas? Now you don't even have the cope of this alien and incomprehensible "originality" that some people possess and some people don't.

I can't, but here is the thing. I found what i like, and i can do it well enough. But that doesn't change the fact, that i am nothing special.
I can read, if i spen enough time on someting i can remember it. If i just analyse data via bimetrics, i can get to new information. Experiments to find new stuff useing existing methods isn't hard either.
None of that requires you to do anything other than remember some stuff and do things algorithmically.
That's all i can do, and i'm fine with that. if that makes me dumb, i accept that. If not, thats fine too.
