Scientifically speaking, why do i feel the need to defend contrarianism?

Idk why but for some reason i just cant stop being a contrarian, even if i dont agree with the point im trying to defend.
Take, for example, flat earthers. Now of course i believe the earth is not flat, but when i see flat earthers on 4chan being mocked and called low IQ, i just cant help it but to try and defend them...
Why do i do this?

Something I recall from middle school times is the classic “using the word retard is offensive because [student]’s sibling is disabled”. My response to this is, who gives a fuck? Legitimately, I don’t give a fuck and I won’t unless you coerce me with force to, and even then it’ll be fake sympathy for the purposes of self preservation.

I think the whole antivax stuff is a good example. I do think that a huge portion or even a majority of antivax content is controlled opposition, but I understand a lot of people are nervous about vaccines, even though I got my double jab the second it was available to me. I find the backlash to antivax revolting.

If you stretch it a bit, it also explains the phenomenon of political correctness in this low T world.
