So two numbers have the ratio 8:3. The first number is 75 greater than the other. What are the numbers?

Apparently the answer is 120 and 45 but I just can't get my head around what steps were taken to get the answer. Can someone please explain how?

3x - 8y = 0
x - y = 75
Use GauB elimination to get
x = 120
y = 45

Here is the midwit way
x = y + 75
x = 8/3 y

8/3 y = y + 75
8/3 y - y = 75
y(8/3 - 1) = 75
y = 75/(8/3 - 1)
y = 45

8 and 3 have a difference of 5.
The next set of whole numbers with a ratio of 8:3 are 16 and 6. They have a difference of 10.
Next are 24 and 9. They have a difference of 15.
Next are 32 and 12. They have a difference of 20.
Notice how the difference keeps going up by 5? Well just try some much bigger numbers with a ratio of 8:3 and see if they have a difference of 75. If the difference is higher than 75, try some smaller numbers. If the difference is smaller, try some bigger numbers
That's how I did it.
