Hello, I'm an undergraduate who's interested in working in the field of music informatics and machine learning for music composition.
I've made music for a while, and AI music seems like a good crossover between my passion and a viable career path. Currently, I'm a math major but don't enjoy writing proofs, so I'll be switching to CS next semester. I have some basic programming knowledge.
My question, along with any recommendations you might have before I dive in, is whether you'd recommend I try to take classes that cover material that's relevant to music-AI-- I'm not entirely sure of what is relevant, either, but I'm assuming probability/stats, and numerical methods at the very least-- or whether I should take easy classes to free up time for self-motivated projects outside of school. I have heard that projects tend to be important in tech.
I'd appreciate any thoughts, especially if you work in this field or one adjacent to it. Have a good day.
