it is wasteful, there's too many people and too few jobs increasingly due to automation. there is the rise of bullshit jobs thats happening: there doesn't need to be so many designers at google, developers working on firefox, hr bloat, headhunters, sales people, scientists studying the mongolian three horned basket weaving beetle etc...
if anything, the videogame and movie dopamine coomerism serves to placate the poor young males who get left out, so they're less likely to commit crimes. delaying or preventing complete chaos
