imagine 2 families, A and B
one of them, A, has a gene that makes it's burdensome members (i.e., those who can't find reproductive success or contribute to everyone's survival, but still consume scarce resources such as food)
the other, B, does not have this gene, so the burdensome live, on average, to the same age as the effective
family A only has effective members, family B has to divide resources with uneffective members
which one is fitter? obviously, A
if this theory is true, we should observe that races that have historically relied on K strategies (the same ones who have faced the most novel problems and had to alocate their scarce resources more carefully) should have higher rates of suicide. so the theory predicts that east asians and amerindians kill themselves more than whites, who kill themselges more than blacks. sure enough, that's exactly how races rank according to suicide rates
