Ok /sci/ I'm going to be completely honest with you.
I have an idea, that might be a new search method for SETI. The idea probably sucks.
I may be a schizo poster, but I'm not delusional.
So I want your feedback. I've resigned myself to the fact that this is a bad idea, but I want to know what is the major drawback?

I am calling this bad idea "Threat Forced METI"

Ok so here goes:

Why don't we look for intelligent signals, where we know there is an astronomical event that is guaranteed too wipe out any civilization in that vicinity?
(Specifically I would want to look at star systems in those areas, such that there are no other nearby star systems that would safe and close enough for the civilization to evacuate there.)

If we do that, then certainly we override the "No one is talking because it's too dangerous to talk." Fermi explanation.

Logically, if a civilization will be obliterated in it's entirety no matter what, that stipulation would absolutely be thrown out the window for any intelligent civilization, right? They may as well broadcast METI non-stop and ask for help. It may be their only chance.
