Also, look for underlying structures in everything. This allows you to see where certain methods, formulations, etc are similar and where they are different.
And, to top it all off, TYPE UP YOUR HOMEWORK. Either in LaTeX, word, whatever. Clearly and concisely type up your homework and the reasoning for every step. If you know the exact reason for why you did every step that you did on a homework, and can explain it clearly and concisely, you will never forget it.
