Science is part of the technocratic hegemony. It is an instrument to achieve a physical goal.
Understanding has no instrumental goal. Doing has instrumental goals, and most persons are doers. There is a fundamental delusion in many humans that hard work deserves some reward. It's a useful feedback loop.
