>>13824517The problem is that the people who teach this stuff are borderline retarded. Think back to when you were in school, did any of the smart kids intend to become elementary school teachers? Not even any of the average kids wanted to become elementary school teachers, and nor did they. Elementary school teachers are among the dumbest people on the planet, ranking slightly higher than (average) 6th graders and pornstars in terms of intelligence.
For this reason, the curriculum for children has to be set up so that these retards teaching it can comprehend what's going on. Their brains don't function like an intelligent person's brain, or even like an average person's brain. Everything for them has to be set up in some wacky mnemonic, and explained the only way they know how, i.e. with broken English.
Furthermore, their brains have been made very rigid and static, having gone through the same factory-line, drone education system that they themselves impart, and they feel threatened by the plasticity of a child's brain, and of the child's ability to learn quickly. Therefore, whether consciously or subconsciously, their goal in teaching is to diminish the child's ability to think for himself, and encourage computer-like thinking, and belief that there is only one right way to solve a problem. They do this essentially through bullying the children who dissent, and it is the reason you see so frequently children lose marks despite having a correct solution, but because the solution is different to the one taught.
Both the old way of arithmetic and this common core stuff are extremely clunky and inefficient. Worst of all is that they insist to the kids this idea that math is rigid, and the way they teach is the only correct way. As mentioned earlier, kids have a great propensity to learn, and the general methods of teaching for the past 50-100 years should be admonished.
