If we genuinely want the world to be functional, we need to accept that algorithms, like calculus, are instruments, and are not goals. Being the best at calculus, better than any other human is a goal, but it kind of sucks as a goal and results in enormous deathbed regrets, which tends to make the entire experience not really worth it.
