CS is either a lot of know-how engineering that doesn't generalize or its theoretical CS, which is an offshoot of mathematics dealing with things not too important for mainstream mathematics today with a few exceptions(curry-howard correspondence and connections between constructive mathematics, category theory and CS are interesting).

Still relatively important for practical applications however - computational complexity is a very important subject(for which there are some people who are attempting to put it on firmer grounds of algebraic geometry with already a decent set of good results).

It stimulates more people to learn more mathematics, of course pure mathematicians dont get much use out of it besides the satisfaction of BTFOing people outside their own field again, which I believe to be important.
