Why is it that an object with an escape velocity > c must be a singularity? Could a macroscopic object like this exist but be shielded by the event horizon? We just can't see it.
Is it because of general relativity and it's great success in explaining phenomena that we are led to the fate ordained singularity? The white dwarf has electron degeneracy pressure, the neutron star has a core of neutrons etc.

Are there any other physical theories prevent objects from existing even if they have this high escape velocity?
From my pop science understanding quantum mechanics and string theories suggest no singularity, but it was assumed from GR that if the escape velocity was greater than c then it must collapse right?
