Holy shit /sci/.

My advisor wanted a preliminary 15 pages draft. I took 1 month to write it and got the tongue lashing of my life. Then he read it all, said it was shit, and expects me to write a new draft for NEXT FUCKING WEEK.

Any tips or advice on how to write an article so I do not look like a complete retard ? I'm in applied EM btw, but any pluridisciplinary idea is welcome.

It's a scientific paper meaning it needs to be written like a complete retard. Find any words over 3 syllables and scrap them, replace them with sentences of one syllable words. Whatever you fo don't use grammar and be sure to constantly cite yourself for points and even just watermark your name over each page.

My advisor was extremely kind and patient with my first paper.
I worked on it a few hours per week over 5 or 6 months, with lots of help.
The point is that you're being exploited.

If you were a postdoc your story would MAYBE be acceptable.
Nothing to be done, except that, when you're looking for jobs, keep this experience in mind and try to pick a nicer boss next time.

the thing with advisors is that they are totally convinced that their way of writing is the correct way and everyone else write like dogshit. don't take it personally. Wait until you get 2 advisors and they both want you to write in completely different ways. That's when the pain starts.

read a bit about technical writing. I had a prof criticize my writing in undergrad and at the time I was annoyed because I was a senior and had been writing papers my whole life and doing well. But he was right.
