If we find a system of extraterrestrial life (something that has an evolutionary mapping related to external factors), would the only reason they aren't conscious yet be because they haven't had enough time? Given enough time I feel like any system of organisms would eventually compete until consciousness is created, at which point it stops and evolution is moreso shifted to the internal self.
