Why is it that even with how advanced modern medicine is, there still isn't a single medical treatment for the common cold? All the doctor does is tell you to drink fluids and get rest, the same thing people have already known for the past 10000 years.

Viruses are tricky, man. I don't know how they could fight it besides simply treating symptoms. It'd be especially hard to combat the virus if they don't know what specific virus is causing your cold.

But if you want a more scientific answer then it's because modern chemistry uses the wrong analogs and chemical components so they could make a cold and flu pill which makes you "feel" better but wont physically cure or get rid of your cold. Instead it'll just relieve you enough for your own body to do it.

So it comes down to a problem of modern scientific philosophy or method of how it's practiced.
