Yes. Also there are some more abstract skills involved in chess like short term memory and visualization. I have near zero of both so even children can beat me at this game.

Intelligence is difficult to really grasp as there are many elements involved. E.g. is the kid who aces exams but has to study tonnes smarter than the kid who studies zero hours skips class, and gets a B? The school system thinks so. But it's not actually representative.

Feynman won the Putnam competition back in the day so clearly his math abilities were not midwit level. His reading and writing skills were below par, however (he didn't even write his famous textbooks, he just had his lectures transcribed), which is what probably lowered his overall score.

So the takeaway is that you don't necessarily need a balanced iq to achieve things. You still need a high iq in at least one area though.

Midwits are just greedy algorithms. Low and very high IQ are possibly identical, the former were prevented from learning early on by the midwits around them. Midwit brains always have an answer, but it's rarely a good one. chess is like tic-tac-toe. the more right moves you know better you are. for example, if you know how to play tic-tac-toe perfectly(which is not hard) there is no chance that you will ever lose in it, you will only draw or win. Even if the division between "science" and "pseudoscience" meant anything, most claims regarding IQ are more widely replicated that many famous results from sociology that back up important governmental decisions. The numerous correlates of IQ are the most replicated results in the soft sciences, and IQ is the best predictor of so many things that you could call Binet an oracle.
Feynman's IQ doesn't mirror his achivements because he took a bad IQ test. His actual IQ was probably around 180.

His IQ is like 127 isn’t it? 115 would be the lower end of midwitness, feynman’s is almost 130 which is considered gifted, and if he had a bad night’s sleep or wasn’t paying attention when he took the test his IQ could be up to 145. And despite g loading like others say it is very possible his IQ was lowered by low verbal IQ, maybe just because he didn’t read a lot of books as a child.

Chess is not a solved game. For some positions, especially the beginning, we don't know if the choice among two or more separate moves each would guarantee a stalemate or white or black loss if both opponents play optimally. You could choose among many moves and get the same stalemate result, or choose among a few that would lead to a win in the same number of moves. Thus we don't know if there is always an optimal procedure and there may not always be an optimal procedure.

I didn't say that we know what the optimal procedure is, only that one exists in principle. We know that an optimal strategy exists since in a game where there are a finite amount of players and a finite amount of strategies for each player, one can show that a Nash equilibrium exists (so you are playing your optimal response to the other player's optimal response and vice versa). The thing is that even if we know that such strategy exists, we don't know exactly which strategy is it because of computational limitations.
