African Americans have been subjected to a great amount of artificial selection. First, the process of capturing slaves would likely tend to capture less intelligent individuals. Next, the transatlantic journey would ensure that only hardier blacks made it to America. Then, slaves would be subject to up to 28 generations of selective breeding (373 years / 13 years per generation), which would select for fast-maturing individuals, and possibly other traits desirable to masters (e.g. high physical strength, low intelligence). Finally, the conditions of ghettos ("Da Hood") provide yet another unique evolutionary pressure by encouraging immoral and feral behavior. To what extent would these drastically different evolutionary pressures explain the current state of the African American community?
