An operator in phisics is a function that changes a reference (coordinate system) without changing any physical properties of the system. (i.e. now set your origin a little left, right, rotate, moving, etc.)
These transformations which don't imply any changes in the laws of physics are call symmetries, and they are related to a conservation law.
Now, if you look at the Psi, that's a wave function. That wave function have the characteristics of that particle (it could be a system, but it will make stuff more difficult for now). If you solve the equation (considering H as a number) then you can get the posible energy levels of that particle.
