>>13805717This is why the internet was a mistake and is destroying society. That event happened. Not even being sarcastic, it really happened. However, statistically, its a very rare occurrence.
Humans are primed to observe what happens to their group, and to adapt their behavior based on what happens. Since it was your group you were always around, the dangers they faced were directly relevant to you and hence your adapted behavior could save you. For example, John gets mauled by a tiger so Jim refused to go out to that forest lest he get mauled by a tiger.
But with the internet it's different. Events that are literally one in a million occurrence rates will receive a soundboard and be amplified to demographics whom the event is completely irrelevant toward. The readers will then adapt their behavior based on this perceived threat, which can have disastrous consequences. For example, the extremely rare event of paternity fraud. This is a real thing that happens and it's life ruining. But it's extremely rare and when young, impressionable men read about it, they adapt their behavior by being afraid of seeking sexual relations with women. For another example, women will see "me too" spammed all day on twitter, and internalize that the world is a dangerous place for them due to the men who will rape them. Thus women adapt their behavior to be weary of men, and to market standard courting rituals as if they're sexual assault.
And thus we see how the internet, providing a soundboard to amplify rare events, directly causes the destruction of the family unit and by extension society. In short: the internet was a mistake.
