The usage of math is cargo culting. Most people that end up in STEM and are successful eventually have to use electronic calculators or computers for scientific calculations, programming, etc. The cargo culters believe that just by learning math you somehow become a better STEMfag, but this is not true, at all. Like in most activities, you need to have a strong goal, ambition and a genuine interest to pursue something.
Most STEMfags who learn barely know how to use integrals or derivatives, they barely know what a vector is. All they do is use the windows calculator, a browser, and that's it. The only reason they use math is to brag about their knowledge or to pretend they know shit, and sometimes they use algebra. I've met people that don't even know what taylor series means. They don't even know how to solve fractions, and so it becomes a pain in the ass for them to calculate anything and they might as well have someone to do it for them. Sometimes they write papers and triple integrals and shit. Sometimes they solve math challegenes from facebook, but rarely. Sometimes they use 0.999999999999... = 1, to show off that they know the basics of limits. But... that's mostly it.
