The only teachers who don't make a good middle class (and often upper middle class) income are those fresh out of college working in a bad but not terrible district (the terrible districts get money fire hosed on them from all kinds of government and NGO sources). It doesn't matter if they're making $120,000/year, they'll still claim poverty and push for even higher wages because, why not if it works?
While the average teachers doesn't make $120,000 (some do), they make a good income. Stupid choices in their personal lives is the reason why so many of them seem to be doing poorly.
