Would you classify pic related as green or hazel?
Is this central heterochromia or what is going on here?
Is hazel just that, green with central heterochromia?
I'm really confused here, there seems to be a lot of conflicting information around.

who the fuck actually cares? eyes exist in a specturm and "hazel" and "centeral heterochromia" are just invented terms trying to categorize traits that can actually vary a lot. Unless you want to argue there aren't hundreds of different shades of blue, green, brown, and everything in between.

if you really care and this isn't some faggy personal thing, try looking into the genetics/chromosomes and find out what actually dictates the traits.

Yeah, there are a number of genes that dictate eye color, but what does that have to do with my question?
Since 'emerald green' basically doesn't exist I was wondering what the actual difference between green and hazel is, this isn't so directly related to genetics, is it?

Evidently there must be a scientific, physical difference.
Why is it that in green eyes the center part of the eye is often more pigmented than the outer parts?
In blue eyes that would often just be called central heterochromia, when it happens in green eyes it is called hazel.
The green is due to pheomelanin, which also causes red hair, while all other eyes colors are caused by differences in eumelanin.
Obviously this is related to genetics, yes.
If you don't want to answer my question so be it, just hid the thread and move on.

genes, this is like asking why heterochromia doesn't happen more often with duller eye colors

you apparently don't even know what the question you're trying to ask is. Do you want to know how the body generates two 'different' layers of tissue in the same organ? Answer: because the DNA programmed it that way. That would be the same as asking why are bones in the places that they are.

So try really hard and think, what is it you're really asking anon, or are flaws in culture and language a new concept for you?
