Why do you think optical illusions are a thing? Because probably 60% of what you see is a hallucination giving false continuity to an image.

As i type i can see the Canadian flag perfectly in my mind, with folds and wind and the background sky and landscape and the glimmer of the pole it's on, the swaying of the rope, all in realistic color. It's straight out of real life. Now I cant draw all that of course, because I am not an artist. But it's still there in my head.
