In the new cinematic adaptation of Dune you can see the a blue shimmer around some characters. This is what is known as a Holtzman shield. The general principal is that "fast" objects (bullets and other projectiles, for example) are repelled by them and "slow" objects (knives, bludgeons, air, and others) pass through.

Is there a scientific basis to this? If not, can you hypothesize a way that this technology might be made possible?
