Is there any good scientific books (preferable solo complete one rather than series) that goes goes in depth on what is currently known on the subject, how it works on biological and molecular level but at the same time does uses fairly simpleish language and does not require academic degree in biology?

I did some google but all recommendations were from some shitty pop-sci sites made for clickbaits so I'm kind of wary. If I dont get any good suggestions I'm just gonna go for the references used on Wiki page.
