Weakened versions of the VIRUS BEING VACCINATED AGAINST, they are not adeno-associated viral vector vaccines which use a transgenic insert to produce SPIKE PROTEIN against the virus being vaccinated against. To summarize:
J&J/AZ/Sputnik use modified class of live, replication-incompetent, but otherwise fully functional, adenovirus, which is not the virus being vaccinated against. Adenoviruses are used since they are known to cause minimal genomic integration and are also popular for genetic research and have extensive history in the lab. DNA can be put into these adenoviruses which codes for the spike protein of covid, so adenoviruses infect the patient's cells and cause them to make spike, similar to how mRNA vaccines work.
Live attenuated vaccines also use live virus, except they use live versions of the actual virus BEING VACCINATED AGAINST (again) i.e. an MMR vaccine might contain actual live measles, mumps, and rubella viruses, however, these viruses are attenuated (through various means of genetic modification) so they are weaker and should be non-pathogenic or significantly less pathogenic than the actual viruses. Hence, your body is mounting an immune response against the actual viruses injected into you from the vaccine, and the viruses you are being injected with don't contain any kind of foreign DNA inserts that cause you to produce some protein from yet another organism as the COVID vaccines do.
